HawaiiUSA Federal Credit Union was named as Community Partner of the Year by the Hawaii State Coalition Against Domestic Violence (HSCADV) for our participation in the HSCADV’s pilot program, the Financial Education Academy (FEA) for domestic violence advocates.
HSCADV presented the Community Partner of the Year award to HawaiiUSA at its 21st Annual Conference on Gender-Based Violence, which was held at the Hilton Hawaii Village on May 16th & 17th.

The FEA is a five-week financial fundamentals course that was developed in partnership between HSCADV, HawaiiUSA, and the National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV) to equip domestic violence advocates with the tools to help survivors of domestic violence experiencing financial abuse.

Women with abusive partners often find themselves in vulnerable financial situations making financial education and empowerment inaccessible. Because of the FEA, domestic violence advocates can properly address the financial abuse experienced by survivors of domestic violence in Hawaiʻi.

Twenty domestic violence advocates participated in the pilot program for FEA and at its conclusion, eight financial coaches from HawaiiUSA continued to assist the advocates to address questions and to continue to advise them after the program’s conclusion.

HawaiiUSA’s partnership with HSCADV aligns with the belief that financial education is the key that unlocks financial confidence and independence. The FEA program brings hope back to those who have suffered setbacks in their financial journey.
