Joining hands to feed local communities

This holiday season, HawaiiUSA Federal Credit Union is reaffirming its commitment to helping families thrive by supporting foodbanks and meal programs across the islands. While Hawaii’s economy shows signs of stability and consumer spending remains strong, many households continue to feel the lingering effects of elevated prices and financial pressures.

For some, putting nutritious meals on the table is still a challenge—especially during a season centered on gathering and connection. To help ease this burden, HawaiiUSA has directed $50,000 in support to foodbanks statewide, including $20,000 to Hawai‘i Foodbank on Oahu, $10,000 to The Food Basket on Hawaii Island, $5,000 to Maui Food Bank, $5,000 to Hale Kau Kau on Maui, $5,000 to Hawai‘i Foodbank Kaua‘i, and $5,000 to Kaua‘i Independent Food Bank.

Foodbanks continue to play a vital role in meeting community needs. Even as the broader economy remains resilient, these organizations report ongoing demand from families navigating higher costs compared to pre-pandemic levels. For kupuna on fixed incomes and working families managing tight budgets, access to fresh produce, pantry staples, and hot meals can make a meaningful difference. HawaiiUSA President & CEO Greg Young shared,“Financial wellness begins with meeting basic needs. When families have food security, they gain the stability to focus on their goals, their well-being, and their future. Supporting our foodbanks is one of the most impactful ways we can live our mission and stand with our communities.”

Across every island, foodbanks and meal programs are working tirelessly to ensure that no one goes hungry. By contributing to their efforts, HawaiiUSA aims to reinforce the belief that food security is foundational to financial confidence. When hunger is no longer an immediate concern, individuals and families can breathe easier, plan further, and pursue long-term stability with hope.

Looking ahead, HawaiiUSA remains committed to building a more resilient Hawaii where every family has the opportunity to thrive. We are deeply grateful to our statewide foodbank partners for their unwavering service and honored to support their mission during the holidays and throughout the year. Together, we believe in creating a Hawaii where compassion leads, communities unite, and everyone has the resources they need to live well.
