On July 25, 2024, two HawaiiUSA employees graduated from Western CUNA Management
School (WCMS), a distinguished three-year professional development program for credit union
management staff. Davin Pai and Keli'i Peltier participated in the graduation ceremony at
Pomona College in Claremont, California and were among 108 graduates, including four other
Hawaii credit union students.
“We are proud of Davin and Keli'i for achieving this milestone in their careers,” said Darryl
Shiroma, Vice President Workforce Excellence at HawaiiUSA. “At HawaiiUSA, we believe the
value of this certification brings to both the employee and our credit union because it empowers
our success and inspires our resiliency in this evolving industry.”
WCMS is a demanding program where students are engaged in a highly concentrated
academic and practical training program for two weeks in the summer, for three years total.
Additionally, the students complete two projects where they research and develop action plans
for their credit union addressing real life issues, navigating changes to the financial industry
landscape. WCMS’s educational program includes courses in Strategic Planning, Operations,
Lending, Finance, Marketing, Human Resources, Economics, Business Law, Communications,
Leadership and more. Typically, the school is designed for managers and upper-level
operational staff who have set credit union management as their career goal.
“Attending the three-year program at WCMS was an awesome and rewarding experience,” said
Keli'i Peltier, Loan Product Manager at HawaiiUSA. “The extremely fast-paced days put us on
our toes and brought out the best in us. Sitting shoulder to shoulder with fellow classmates
ranging from entry-level managers to CEOs of credit unions while learning from industry leaders
was inspiring to me. I look forward to continuing the credit union movement with the experiences
I had and the materials I learned at WCMS,” Keli'i added.
“WCMS challenges credit union professionals academically and socially to learn best practices
as well as tackle real life issues facing the industry today,” said Davin Pai, Business Analyst at
HawaiiUSA. “Completing the program has given me the most personal professional
development in the last 20 years of my career. I look forward to using the information learned
and skills developed from the program to tackle problems and move the credit union and its
membership forward,” Davin continued.
HawaiiUSA invests in opportunities like WCMS because it is also seen as an investment for our
members and our community. When employees take a bold step to advance their careers and
enhance their professional capabilities, the entire credit union benefits. One to two HawaiiUSA
employees are able to participate in the program every year, taking away a broad understanding
of credit union operations and related disciplines. HawaiiUSA’s last WCMS graduate was Malia
Vaimaona in 2022.
