Aloha,

It’s safe to say that we are at a turning point in our collective journey of recovering from the pandemic. As I approach my one-year anniversary as HawaiiUSA’s president and CEO, I reflect on who we are as an organization, and how far we’ve come. Sometimes, reflection begets growth and change. You may have noticed some differences with our branding and website. We, along with you, acknowledge the new horizon in front of us and we’re happy to share HawaiiUSA’s new brand identity with you.

New look, same commitment

Life matters, still. Our new refreshed logo and brand concept still maintains the essence of our previous logo with a stronger and bolder look. A brand identity helps to tell our story and is a representation of our mission to improve lives. We want to be easily recognizable to our members and the community, just as we want to be easily accessible for you.

A new era of innovation

No doubt, change is uncomfortable and scary. But one thing remains constant, and that is our deep roots in community and education. Evolution is inevitable if we want to remain a high-performing credit union. Since the pandemic, member needs have changed and we’ve adapted and innovated to meet those needs for convenience allowing you to bank how you want – through Digital Banking, our branches, or our Member Service Center. Always striving to be proactive in our approach and look for opportunities to grow, we’ve adopted new technologies such as enhancements to our digital banking, and learned to better leverage data for experience personalization.

Recognition owed to you

Thanks to the support of our members, we reached the milestone of $2.3 Billion in assets and $1 Billion in loan balances.

In addition, we were honored to receive the following recognition and awards:

  • Recognized by Forbes as a “Best-in-State” credit union for 5 years in a row (2018-2022)
  • Selected this year as one of “Hawaii’s Best Workplaces” by Pacific Business News
  • Selected as one of Hawaii’s “Top 250 Businesses” by Hawaii Business Magazine for 5 years in a row

Serving well beyond banking

With the goal for progress and adapting to our new normal, we realize the need to serve our members more holistically and support your overall financial well-being. That is why our commitment to volunteerism and community programs is so important. The communities you live and thrive in are an extension of you, which is why all of our community efforts are targeted towards housing, hunger, health, or education. These issues are essential cornerstones to a healthy economic and financial life.

Giving by the numbers

  • $688,354.50 in donations and in-kind givebacks to nonprofits and organizations (2021)
  • 811 community volunteer hours by our employees (2021)
  • $803,500 in college scholarships awarded since 1990
  • 34 employees are Certified Credit Union Financial Counselors (CCUFC) and have provided more than 800 consultations
  • 130 schools statewide benefiting from our financial education resources, impacting 4300+ students

Learning what makes life matter

Mahalo to all of our members for your continued support. We have learned so much in the past two years, but the most important lesson is that in order to be the best, we need to be a learning organization - constantly learning from the past so we can create a better future. We take pride in learning about what makes life matter for you. Our commitment to a better tomorrow for you, your family, and for our community, will always be at the heart of what we do.

Mahalo nui loa,

Greg Young
