Target Issues Phishing Warning 12.26.13
December 26, 2013
HawaiiUSA would like to pass along a new security alert issued by the Target Corporation. On December 23, the retailer confirmed that malware was to blame for the compromise which caused millions of U.S. debit and credit cards accounts to be exposed to hackers.
Target announced that it is aware of limited incidents of phishing or scam communications, and has set up a dedicated resource at Target.com/paymentcardresponse on its corporate website where pdfs of all official communication will be posted.
On its website Target alerts customers that Social Security numbers were not compromised. However, new scams relating to the breach recovery have been engineered. Be wary of phishing scams that may appear to offer protection but are really trying to get personal information from you. Do not click on suspicious links in email or text messages. Go directly to the website that you need access to.
While this incident is not specific to HawaiiUSA, we would like to ask our members to take precautions. For debit card concerns call HawaiiUSA directly at (808) 534.4300 or (800) 379.1300. For credit card concerns please call PSCU at (800) 654.7728.
