Do You Have Enough Money to Retire?

Do You Have Enough Money to Retire?

As you plan for retirement, three critical factors determine how much money you have in retirement and will affect the quality of your retirement.

The first factor is time. The younger you start saving, the more you will have in retirement. Even a modest start can have profound results because of the power of compounding.

The second factor affecting your retirement nest egg is the amount you save. The most you can afford to save is the right amount. If you have a 401k or 403b at work, you can put away up to $17,500 in 2013. If you are over 50, you can save an additional $5,500. If not, you can contribute to an IRA or Roth IRA up to $5,500 in 2013 (over 50 can save $6,500). Starting young with a smaller amount and increasing the contribution as you can will yield good results.

The final factor affecting your retirement nest egg is the quality of your investment. If you are in retirement or close to retirement, you should consider more conservative investments that offer lower yields and less volatility. However, if you are more than ten years from retirement, investing in high quality mutual funds have historically provided the best returns.

Visit one of our Financial Advisors in our branches to discuss the best strategy for you.

*Non-deposit investment products and services are offered through CUSO Financial Services, L.P.
