The Nomination Committee of the Board of Directors for HawaiiUSA nominated three members to fill three vacancies for the 2022-2023 Board of Directors. The three vacancies were for three-year terms. The following members, listed in alphabetical order, were nominated:

Rita Ornellas

 

Members had until October 31, 2021 to submit a qualifying nomination by petition.  No member of the general membership submitted a qualifying nomination by petition.  As such, an election will not be conducted by ballot and there will be no nominations from the floor as the number of nominees equal the number of positions to be filled.  The above-named individuals were declared elected at the HawaiiUSA Annual Meeting held on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at 6:00 p.m.

Harlan Kimura

Work Experience 

Harlan Y. Kimura, Attorney At Law, A Law Corporation, President and Owner; Office of Boards and Commissions, County of Kauai, Hearing Officer; Judiciary, State of Hawaii, Per Diem District Court Judge; First Circuit Court, State of Hawaii, Foreclosure Commissioner; and Former Partner of Hong and Iwai.

Education and Certifications

Credit Union National Association (CUNA) Certified Credit Union Executive and Certified Financial Services Professional; University of Hawaii at Manoa, Juris Doctorate; University of Hawaii at Manoa, Master of Business Administration; University of Hawaii at Manoa, Master of Arts in Communications; and University of Hawaii, Bachelor of Arts in Communications.

Board Qualifications

Starting as a Board Member in 1995, Oahu Educational Employees FCU had assets of less than $300 Million.  Today as HawaiiUSA it is over $2.2 Billion.  These 25 years of volunteerism, as well as my educational and employment background, provide me with the skills and competencies essential to serve as a Board Member.

Why you would like to serve as a Board Director 

HawaiiUSA FCU has delivered on its Life matters promise to me for over 40 years.  In return, it would be an honor to continue volunteering at HawaiiUSA as it delivers on that same brand promise to its Members as one of the Best Credit Unions in Hawaii according to Forbes.

Primary Focus for HawaiiUSA

I will continue to focus on HawaiiUSA delivering the types of products and services essential for every stage of its Members’ lives in this highly competitive industry inundated by non-traditional financial services companies.  To do so, HawaiiUSA must continuously transform and improve to remain relevant to its Members and in the marketplace.

Roberta Mayor

Work Experience

Education and Certifications

University of Hawaii at Manoa, Doctor of Education; University of Hawaii at Manoa, Master’s in Educational Administration; and University of Hawaii at Manoa, Bachelor of Arts in Arts and Sciences.

Board Qualifications

I have been a school and district administrator for most of my career, managing multi-million-dollar budgets and assisting several school districts in California to recover from bankruptcy.  I have also led numerous community service organizations.  I have demonstrated leadership and financial skills and hope to add value as a Board Member.

Why you would like to serve as a Board of Director

It is important to me to contribute my services to my community.  As a Board Member, I can represent the interest of Members and help ensure their future financial independence.  Providing all Members with the tools to manage their finances well, will enhance their quality of life, as Life matters.

Primary Focus for HawaiiUSA

I would focus on promoting financial education that leads to financial independence.  Ensuring that our Members know the options available to them to manage their financial resources wisely.

Rita Ornellas

Work Experience

I have strong leadership skills, excellent communication and people skills, and proven success in various Executive Management and Board positions within the financial industry.

Why you would like to serve as a Board of Director

The credit union industry has provided me with numerous opportunities for professional growth and development.  I would like to “pay it forward” and apply my skills and experience in efforts to add value towards HawaiiUSA’s continued growth and success.

Primary Focus for HawaiiUSA 

In collaboration with the other Board Members and the President and CEO, my focus would be to ensure a high performing President and CEO that leads HawaiiUSA, through high performing employees, toward continued future success.
